Glyn Jones Kyoshi

道 場 先生 :: グリン ジョーンズ

Glyn Jones began his training in the Martial Arts at an early age under the tutelage of his father, Roy Jones, in the Arts of Japanese Judo & Ju Jutsu, gaining a Black Belt Dan grade as a youngster. A series of fortunate local meetings and events as a teenager also allowed Glyn to be accepted as one of the few students of the late Ju Jutsu Ka and Forces Un Armed Combat Instructor Bill Webb Bowen.

Glyn began training in Karate under the well renowned and no nonsense Karate teacher Cyril Cummins Sensei of The Japan Karate Association, going on to achieve his Shodan in Karate. Relocation gave Glyn the opportunity to explore and experience a vast variety of Karate Dojos, Styles and Teachers in the U.K. and around Europe. Over the years he has trained under almost every Japanese or Okinawan Karate teacher that visited the shores of the U.K. regardless of style or association.

Two of Glyn’s most influential Karate Teachers over a number of years being Slater Williams Sensei, a Senior Student of Taiji Kase Sensei. Williams Sensei being a formidably highly skilled and powerful exponent of Karate, it was this training that first presented elements of Okinawan Ti to Glyn’s attention. Through a time of training in both the Shotokan & Goju Ryu ways of Karate, Glyn firmly believes that “Good Karate is just that, Good Karate“. For well over a decade Glyn was also a close inner student of Brian Hinchliffe Sensei of the Ho Ei Juku in the Art of Goju Ryu Karate, this being in the days when Hinchliffe Sensei only had an handful of serious sincere students, after just recently returning from the Seishikan Dojo of Heiji Tada Sensei in Fushimi, Kyoto, Japan. Sensei Hinchliffe is an exceptionally knowledgeable teacher who Glyn continues to seek regular guidance from to this day.

Glyn Jones Sensei achieved both his 4th and 5th Dan Karate Certifications from the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai Honbu Dojo, the Butokuden in Kyoto, Japan. Together with receiving his 5th Dan in Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate at the Honbu Dojo of the Ryusyokai in Tomigusuku, Okinawa, Japan, directly from his teacher Shigetoshi Senaha Sensei 9th Dan, then again receiving his 6th Dan from his Sensei in 2011. Glyn is also the holder of a 2nd Dan in Japanese Ju Jutsu achieved through the Ho Ei Juku.

To date Glyn continues to practice, study, research and teach Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate, Kobudo, and elements of Ti as passed on to him by his Teacher Shigetoshi Senaha Sensei 9th Dan and other senior Okinawan teachers as in Hidenobu Tamaki Sensei 9th Dan. He also receives regular guidance from James East Sensei 7th Dan. Glyn has continued to return to Okinawa, Japan, for instruction, correction, guidance, advice and inspiration as often as is regularly possible, over many years. His most recent trip to Okinawa, Japan, being for over a month during December 2019 just prior to the Covid pandemic restricting travel.

Glyn’s aim is to continue to focus on his own personal Karate training, whilst also having a desire to pass on the true teachings of the art of Karate to a small number of Sincere and Serious personal students, in a way that he has been taught himself, in a way that he believes to be true and correct. The Okinawan Way….
